The old precast step at this front entrance had seen better days. The surface was crumbling, chunks were breaking away from the riser face, and the whole structure had that worn-out look that tells you it's not just cosmetic - it's a safety issue. Every single person walking through that front door was stepping on something that was actively failing.

We pulled the old precast unit out completely. No patching over it, no quick fixes. When a step gets to that point, a band-aid repair isn't going to cut it. We also extended the scope to replace part of the connecting sidewalk to make sure the entire approach to the door was solid and code-compliant from the public walk all the way to the threshold.

What we ended up with is a fully poured, freshly finished concrete entry - new steps, new landing, and a new sidewalk section that ties it all together cleanly. The broom-finished texture across the walkway and smooth-troweled step nosings are intentional. That combination gives you grip where you need it underfoot, while keeping the overall look clean and uniform.

This is exactly the kind of concrete flatwork job that looks straightforward but has a lot riding on it. Getting the slope right, the step heights right, the control joints in the right spots - all of that matters for long-term performance and for meeting city code requirements. We take that seriously on every job, whether it's a simple sidewalk section or a full entry overhaul like this one.
