Old, deteriorating steps at a building entrance are more than just an eyesore - they're a liability. When the step at this church entry started breaking down, it wasn't just about looks. It was about the people walking through that door every single day.

Here's what we were working with: a low, worn-out step that sat at a height that made it easy to miss. That kind of subtle drop is exactly what causes trips and falls. We tore it out and replaced it with a new, larger concrete step - raised to a proper height so it's easy to see and easy to use.

The concrete flatwork itself is clean and uniform, broom-finished for traction. Getting the dimensions right on a replacement like this matters a lot. Too low and you've still got a hazard. Too steep and it's hard on people coming and going. We sized it up to give the landing plenty of room while hitting the right step height.

The finished entrance now has a proper iron handrail to go along with the new step. That combination - solid concrete base plus a sturdy rail - is what turns a problem entrance into one people can actually trust. For a building where all kinds of folks are coming and going, that's exactly what you want.

This is the kind of concrete flatwork job that doesn't get a lot of attention, but it matters. It's not glamorous. It's practical. And when it's done right, it just works - quietly, reliably, every single day.
